The governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has stated that he does not oppose the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking during his monthly media chat on Friday, Otti asserted that he has no reason to challenge the President’s second-term bid, considering that he is also seeking re-election.
He maintained that it would be inconsistent for him to deny another elected official the same opportunity.
Otti said, “I am not in a position to oppose the candidacy of the President. I am not running for President.
“Why would I oppose his presidency? I am also seeking a second term. Would it be right for me to say someone else should not have theirs?”
Otti dismissed attempts to frame his position along party lines, noting that governance requires cooperation across all levels, federal, state and local governments.
According to him, disagreements may arise, but once decisions are taken within the system, they must be respected in line with democratic principles.
The governor also cautioned against what he described as politically motivated narratives designed to create unnecessary tension, insisting that such positions often do not stand up to scrutiny.
On his political future, Otti reaffirmed his commitment to the Labour Party, saying its internal issues have been resolved following a Supreme Court decision recognised by INEC.
“The party is back on its feet,” he said, adding that preparations for congresses and a national convention are underway.
