The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested 31 people suspected of being involved in internet fraud training during a raid in Abuja on Thursday, April 9, 2026.
The operation took place at a building used as a cyber fraud training centre located in Becki Estate, Karu area of the Federal Capital Territory.
The suspects included two persons described as leaders of the group and several trainees who were allegedly being taught how to carry out online fraud activities.
During the raid, officers recovered mobile phones, about 18 laptop computers, and other electronic items believed to be used for the training.
Investigations showed that some of the trainees were brought in from places such as Benue State with promises of job opportunities.
However, after arriving at the centre, they were given computers, phones, and software and then trained on how to carry out internet scams.
The EFCC also stated that the trainees were kept inside the facility and were not allowed to move freely.
Their phones were taken from them to stop contact with the outside world. Reports further indicated that some of them were physically punished if they refused to comply with instructions.
The anti-graft agency said the suspects will be taken to court once investigations are completed.
