Former APC Deputy Governor Officially Joins ADC.

Former deputy governor of Kano State, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, has officially become a member of the African Democratic Congress after leaving the All Progressives Congress.

He  completed his registration on Tuesday in his ward located in Nasarawa Local Government Area, where he was handed his membership card in the presence of party leaders and a large crowd of supporters.

Among those at the event were former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, former deputy governor Aminu Gwarzo, and the party’s state chairman Musa Ungogo.

After joining the party, Gawuna thanked those who stood by him and assured them he would work to grow the party’s presence in Kano State.

His move comes at a time when politicians in the state are changing parties and forming new alliances ahead of the 2027 general election.

The defection followed his earlier decision to leave the APC, which he described as a personal step taken willingly in a letter sent to his ward chairman on March 29, 2026.

In the letter, he appreciated the party for giving him the chance to serve and contribute during his time as a member.

Before joining the ADC, Gawuna also stepped down from his role as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, with his resignation taking effect on March 31, 2026.

His exit was in line with a directive from Bola Ahmed Tinubu asking political appointees seeking elective positions to resign as required by the Electoral Act.

He also appreciated the President for the trust placed in him, noting that he had served in different positions, including as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Bayero University Kano.
