GUO Transport Company Ltd has today, Tuesday, the 21st of April. 2026 released a statement in response to the trending news about the gunmen's attack on one of their buses and the claimed abduction of some passengers in the bus supposedly attacked.
The
company was swift to dissociate itself from the circulating news that some passengers
in the attacked bus were abducted while killing the driver, which, according to
the statement from the company, was a false narrative.
According
to the press release circulated this afternoon by GUO Transport Company, "GUO Transport Co. confirms a tragic incident involving one of our vehicles on
Saturday, April 18, 2026. A Toyota Hiace bus was dispatched empty from Lagos
to Onitsha but was ambushed by armed robbers along the Okada-Benin
Road.

The statement
signed by the management says GUO regret to confirm that the incident resulted
in the loss of just the “driver”, who was the only person onboard
the said bus as at the time of dispatch, meaning that the company was not aware
that there were passengers in the bus, because there were no passengers when the driver left Lagos for Onitsha.
This is a
deeply painful loss to the entire GUO family, the company said and their immediate
focus is to support the family of the only known passenger in the bus, which is
the driver, during this difficult time, and they extend their heartfelt condolences
to the family.
According to
GUO, “We commend the efforts of the relevant security agencies and government
authorities, and we respectfully urge intensified action to address the
persistent security challenges on this corridor."
One of the
responses “News PlatformNG” captured was that of the Director
General of the National Film and Video Censors Board, NFVCB, very respected Dr.
Shaibu Husseini, who questioned the rationale behind the statement released by
the company on the incident and the truth about the circulated abduction of passengers
onboard the said bus with the question below.
Dr.
Husseini opined, “Sad that the incident happened. So sad. But if you
read the line about the "bus being dispatched empty." Meaning that
there is no record of any other person except the driver who left with the
vehicle empty. Does it mean that the driver decided to pick passengers on the
way?
