Afrobeats star Ayra Starr has sparked conversation online after opening up about her personal relationship with God and her views on religion during a recent livestream with Jarvis.
Speaking candidly on Jarvis’ live stream, the singer explained that while her faith is strong, her spiritual journey goes beyond simply attending church services.
According to Ayra Starr, her goal is to live a life that reflects Christ-like values, even though she admits she hasn’t reached that point yet.
“I can only try to be as perfect as Jesus is. I am not there yet but I’m trying my best,” she said.
The hitmaker also emphasized that her relationship with God and the Holy Spirit is deeply personal and not restricted to traditional religious settings.
“I have a very close relationship with God and the Holy Spirit and it doesn’t come with me only being in church,” she explained.
However, it was her comment about religion that drew the most attention online. Ayra Starr suggested that some aspects of organized religion can feel restrictive, adding that faith should be personal and tailored to individual spiritual experiences.
“You know everything that comes with religion is kind of limiting. God says let it be unto you according to your faith. I have found a way that works for me,” she said.
She concluded by noting that her current approach to faith brings her peace and that she is comfortable with the path she has chosen for now.
“I have found a way that works with me and that is what is working for me and I am fine with it for now.”
