Former Senate President, David Mark, has moved to calm rising tensions within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), assuring members and supporters that the ongoing leadership crisis will not undermine the party’s unity.
Mark gave the assurance on Wednesday while speaking at a church service organised in his honour to mark his 78th birthday.
Addressing concerns over the internal disagreements within the party, the embattled national chairman said the situation should not be seen as a threat to the party’s stability.
“On the issue of the ongoing developments within our great party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), I wish to assure our members and Nigerians at large that there is no cause for alarm,” he said.
The ADC has recently faced internal disputes and competing claims to leadership, raising questions about its readiness for the 2027 general elections.
Mark described the disagreements as a natural phase in the development of any political organisation, stressing that the party remains focused on its long-term objectives.
“Challenges are a natural part of any growing institution. What is important is our collective resolve to overcome them,” he said.
He maintained that the party’s leadership and members remain united despite the tensions.
“We remain united, determined, and focused on strengthening the party and upholding democratic values,” he added.
The former Senate president also linked the party’s stability to the broader health of Nigeria’s democratic system.
“Let me reiterate that we are fully committed to the survival of democracy and the development of our dear nation, Nigeria,” he said.
Mark pledged that the party would continue to promote democratic values and ensure that governance delivers tangible benefits to citizens.
“We will continue to work tirelessly, guided by discipline, integrity, and patriotism, to ensure that our democratic institutions are preserved and that the dividends of democracy reach all our people,” he stated.
Reflecting on his birthday, Mark expressed gratitude for the support he has received over the years and reaffirmed his commitment to national development.
“At 78, my resolve remains unshaken. I am inspired more than ever to contribute my quota to national unity, peace, and progress,” he said.
