Former Ogun State Governor and Senator, Gbenga Daniel, has credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for shaping his approach to governance, describing him as both a source of inspiration and a model of practical leadership.
Daniel made the remarks on Wednesday in Abuja during a public event marking his 70th birthday. Speaking at the Yar’Adua Centre, Daniel praised Tinubu’s pragmatic leadership and intellectual depth, stating,
“Tinubu remains one of the most pragmatic human beings that I have ever come across. Nigeria is yet to see the best of him. Mr President is a textbook in governance and creative intelligence that many of us read from.”
He added that much of the success of his administration as governor of Ogun State was inspired by Tinubu’s ideas, saying,
“I owe the modest success of our administration to his insight and creative genius. Many governance initiatives we implemented were drawn from his model.”
Beyond personal tributes, Daniel addressed broader national issues, emphasizing the importance of credible information in policymaking, the f+ght against corruption, and the promotion of ethical leadership based on the “Omoluabi ethos.” He suggested structured approaches for repatriating illicit funds and stressed the need for accountability and integrity in governance.
On security, Daniel expressed support for ongoing discussions on state policing and proposed the establishment of State Police Councils to prevent abuse and ensure oversight.
