The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted a mix of sunshine, cloudy skies and thunderstorms across several parts of the country from Monday to Wednesday.
The agency disclosed this in its weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, advising residents to take precautionary measures as strong winds and rainfall are expected in some areas.
According to NiMet, sunny skies with patches of clouds are expected over the northern region on Monday morning.
However, thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall are likely later in the day.
The agency said, “Sunny skies with patches of clouds are expected over the northern region during the morning hours.”
It added that parts of Taraba State may experience thunderstorms with light rains later in the day.
For Tuesday, NiMet forecasts similar weather conditions with possible morning thunderstorms in Taraba and Kaduna States, while moderate rainfall is expected later in the day in Adamawa, Taraba, Borno, Gombe, Bauchi and Kaduna States.
On Wednesday, sunny skies are expected in the morning, followed by thunderstorms with moderate rains in Adamawa, Borno, Gombe, Kaduna and Taraba States later in the day.
NiMet also predicted cloudy weather with intervals of sunshine across the North-Central region.
The agency said thunderstorms accompanied by light rain may occur later on Monday in Kogi and Benue States.
For Tuesday, it forecasts isolated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Benue and Nasarawa States in the morning.
It added that widespread thunderstorms with moderate rainfall could occur across the region later in the day.
On Wednesday, the region is expected to witness isolated thunderstorms in the morning, with further thunderstorms likely during the afternoon and evening hours.
Southern States To Witness Widespread Rainfall
In the southern region, NiMet predicted cloudy skies with sunshine intervals on Monday morning.
Morning thunderstorms are expected over Akwa Ibom and Cross River States, while light rainfall and thunderstorms are likely to affect the entire region later in the day.
The agency also forecast moderate rainfall and thunderstorms across the southern states on Tuesday.
For Wednesday, NiMet said strong chances of thunderstorms with moderate rains are expected in Lagos, Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River and Akwa Ibom States during the morning hours.
It added that widespread thunderstorms are expected across the region later in the day.
NiMet urged Nigerians to take necessary precautions as strong winds may precede rainfall in areas where thunderstorms are likely.
“The public should ensure that loose objects are fastened to avoid collision,” the agency advised.
It also warned motorists to avoid driving during heavy rainfall and recommended disconnecting electrical appliances during thunderstorms.
“Stay away from tall trees to avoid impact from falling branches and broken trees. Temperatures are expected to remain high, causing thermal discomfort,” NiMet said.
The agency further advised residents to wear breathable clothing, remain in well-ventilated environments and stay hydrated.
Airline operators were also urged to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for effective flight planning, while residents were advised to monitor regular updates through the agency’s official channels.
