The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has said no candidate has been anointed for any elective office ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party’s state chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, made this known on Thursday in Lagos after the party concluded its National Convention, where new officers were elected across different levels.
He explained that with the convention over, the party has now turned its attention to the process of picking candidates who will represent it in the next elections.
Ojelabi said every position within the party is open to interested members, making it clear that no one will be forced on the party.
He added that members who want to contest should prepare and follow the proper process as laid down by law.
He also stated that the selection of candidates would follow the timetable set by the Independent National Electoral Commission and would comply with the Electoral Act and other rules guiding elections in the country.
According to him, the party plans to use direct primaries as its main method for choosing candidates.
However, he noted that consensus can still be used in some cases if all parties involved agree without pressure.
The chairman warned that any money paid by aspirants for nomination or other party processes will not be returned, no matter the outcome.
He assured party members that everyone would be given a fair chance, adding that the process would be open and transparent.
Ojelabi also said the party wants more women to take part in the process, noting that female aspirants who are well accepted in their areas will be given support where necessary.
He called on members to remain calm and behave properly while waiting for official guidelines from the party’s national leadership
