The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest and detention of a police officer accused of extorting a motorist in the Idimu area of Lagos State.
The case
gained attention after a viral video showed the driver alleging he was stopped
despite valid documents and pressured to pay money following a dispute over his
vehicle’s colour classification.
The
motorist claimed the officer demanded ₦30,000, which was later reduced to
₦10,000.
In a
statement, the police said: “The officer seen in the viral video has been
identified, arrested, detained and queried. Disciplinary procedures are
ongoing, and the outcome will be communicated after investigation.”
Authorities
added that a full report will be released after internal review processes are
concluded.
