Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, said he chooses to work closely with politicians accused of corruption to influence them in a positive way.
He believes that engaging with such leaders gives him a chance to correct their actions if they are guilty.
Obi spoke on Saturday during an interview on Magic FM in Aba, Abia State.
He explained that his approach is similar to how Jesus Christ associated with tax collectors and pr+stitutes, using those relationships to bring change and guidance.
Obi said he sees this method as a way to help reform individuals rather than isolate them.
He also criticized what he called selective application of the law. Obi pointed to notable figures like Malami and El-Rufai, noting that while their contributions to government are known, they are still being pursued legally.
He argued that other people who committed worse acts are not being held accountable, suggesting political bias in prosecutions.
Obi referred to recent legal actions, including the arraignment of El-Rufai by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on charges of fr@ud and money laundering on March 24.
He also mentioned that Malami, his wife Bashir Asabe, and their son Abdulaziz face a 16-count money laundering case filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
