Wike Criticizes Journalist Over One-Party State Concern.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, expressed strong frustration over a comment made by Channels Television journalist Seun Okinbaloye during a recent political program.

Wike said he was upset by Okinbaloye’s remarks, joking that he wished he could “shoott him through the TV,” though he clarified this was a statement of anger, not a real threat.

The issue arose during Thursday’s edition of Politics Today, which discussed the leadership struggles in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the party’s ability to participate in the 2027 elections.

Okinbaloye raised concerns that the ADC, considered one of the few opposition parties, might not be able to contest due to its internal crises. He warned that this could leave Nigeria with only one dominant political party.

Wike responded on Friday during a media chat in Abuja, arguing that the journalist appeared to have taken a side in the ADC dispute rather than staying neutral.

He said Okinbaloye had presented his own opinion on national television instead of just asking questions, which Wike found inappropriate for a journalist.

The minister stressed that his strong words reflected frustration at the broadcast rather than any intention to harm.
