As the world marks World Creativity and Innovation Day 2026, the Nigeria–China Strategic Partnership (NCSP) has reiterated the centrality of innovation, collaboration and execution in driving sustainable development and economic transformation.
Anchored
on the theme, Recreating Tomorrow Today, the Partnership is urging stakeholders
across public and private sectors to move beyond ideation towards actionable
innovation, noting that current global realities demand practical solutions,
cross-border cooperation and measurable impact.
The
commemoration underscores the role of creativity and critical thinking in
advancing the United Nations-backed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),
particularly in addressing economic inequality, climate change and inclusive
growth. NCSP said its ongoing engagements between Nigeria and China reflect a
deliberate strategy to translate innovation into real sector outcomes, with
focus areas spanning infrastructure, technology, manufacturing and the creative
economy.
As a
bilateral platform, NCSP continues to facilitate knowledge transfer, deepen
investment linkages and support the deployment of scalable solutions that align
local priorities with global competitiveness.
Speaking
on the significance of the day, Director-General of NCSP, Joseph Olasunkanmi
Tegbe, stressed the importance of outcome-driven innovation.
“Creativity
must go beyond ideas. It must lead to action. This is how we solve real
problems, create opportunities, and shape a better future. At NCSP, we are
focused on turning innovative thinking into results that drive economic growth,
empower people, and strengthen the partnership between Nigeria and China,” he
said.
Tegbe
further highlighted the role of structured collaboration in sustaining
innovation ecosystems, noting that the convergence of Nigerian talent and
Chinese technological advancement presents significant opportunities across
sectors.
“Our role
is to build bridges where Nigerian ingenuity meets Chinese advancement. When we
combine these strengths, we unlock transformative possibilities across sectors.
From infrastructure to industry, and increasingly within the creative space, we
are seeing how innovation can redefine what is possible for our people,” he
added.
The
observance also brings renewed attention to the expanding role of the creative
economy as a driver of jobs, enterprise development and cultural exchange. For
Nigeria, with its large youth population, the potential to leverage
innovation-led growth remains significant.
NCSP said
its interventions are aligned with this opportunity, with programs designed to
support talent development, promote entrepreneurship, and strengthen global
partnerships.
As global
stakeholders reflect on the role of creativity in shaping the future, the
Partnership maintains that sustained progress will depend on the ability of
institutions and nations to convert ideas into execution and collaboration into
impact.
