Former Skye Bank Chairman Tunde Ayeni has allegedly been robbed of personal valuables, including a wedding ring and wristwatch reportedly worth over ₦120 million, during a search operation at the Kuje Correctional Centre, Abuja, according to SaharaReporters sources.
The operation was said to have been carried out by senior Nigerian Correctional Service officials, allegedly led by the Deputy Controller-General (Operations), alongside the facility’s officers.
It was reportedly conducted with armed personnel, DSS dogs, and operatives in bulletproof vests, causing panic among inmates.
Sources claimed that during the exercise, valuables belonging to high-profile inmates were taken without proper documentation. Suspended DCP Abba Kyari, also detained at Kuje, was allegedly affected, with about ₦2 million reportedly missing.
One source said Ayeni’s items, including the expensive ring and wristwatch, were seized during the raid, adding that he may file an official petition over the incident.
However, prison authorities have not confirmed the allegations, and the claims remain based on insider accounts.
Ayeni is currently facing trial over alleged financial crimes involving about ₦15.7 billion, while Abba Kyari is also on trial in a separate case.
