This is a picture of Olumide Abiodun Oworu, the Nollywood actor who contested against Desmond Elliot under the Labour party for the Surulere Constituency seat during the 2023 elections.
During
that period, he was brutalized simply for daring to contest. Check the tweet
below.
At the
time, Desmond Elliot appeared comfortable being a beneficiary of the thuggery
and intimidation that surrounded the election.
Reports of
violence, harassment, and the suppression of opposition candidates became part
of the political atmosphere, and Olumide was one of those affected.
Today, the
same Desmond Elliot is crying about intimidation and the withdrawal of his
security details.
Ironically,
this is the same political system he once benefited from.
If he is
now being pressured because he refused to step down, then he is experiencing
firsthand the kind of political culture that has long been used against others.
Desmond
Elliot was handpicked by Femi Gbajabiamila and enjoyed the backing of the All
Progressives Congress political structure in Lagos.
The same
machinery that was used against Labour Party candidates like Olumide is now
turning against one of its own.
Elliot,
bear the consequences. Don't call on the public and if I may ask, what do you
expect us to do? Carry your cross please.
