President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede whose second and final tenure ends on July 31, 2026.

The appointment was announced on Thursday in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, Aina is expected to build on the reforms and achievements recorded under Oloyede while strengthening the examination body through technology-driven innovations and institutional reforms.

President Tinubu said the incoming registrar would use his expertise and experience to take the agency to greater heights.

Aina, a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, is regarded as a systems expert with years of experience in examination systems, digital infrastructure and public-sector reforms.

He holds a degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, alongside a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a doctorate in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also attended the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.

The statement revealed that Aina’s relationship with JAMB dates back to his NYSC days, when he first worked with the board and gained experience in national admissions processes and data systems.

At 39, Aina became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering and will now make history as the youngest registrar ever appointed by JAMB.

He has also worked as a consultant for examination bodies including National Examinations Council (NECO) and National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), focusing on ICT systems, examination integrity and digital process optimisation.
