The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old woman, Aisha Muktar Hassan, in connection with the alleged killing of her 97-year-old paternal grandmother in Daura Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the incident followed a domestic dispute between the suspect and the elderly woman on June 12, 2026.
Police reports indicate that an argument broke out between Aisha Muktar Hassan and her grandmother, Hajiya Ummukhulsum Hassan, at about 7:00 pm. During the altercation, the suspect allegedly struck the elderly woman on the head with a wooden chair.
The victim was later discovered unconscious in a pool of blood after police received a distress call from the suspect’s father, Muktar Muhammad Hassan, who reported the incident to the Sabon Garin Daura Police Station.
She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment but was later pronounced dead by the attending doctor.
DSP Aliyu stated that police operatives responded swiftly to the scene, evacuated the victim for medical attention, and subsequently launched an investigation into the incident. During questioning, the suspect allegedly confessed to the offence and has since been taken into custody.
“The Katsina State Police Command has succeeded in arresting one Aisha Muktar Hassan, female, aged 20, suspected to be in connection with the death of her 97-year-old paternal grandmother…,” the statement read in part.
The police confirmed that the suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations. Further updates are expected as the case progresses.
