Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and PDP leader, Nyesom Wike, has urged members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to prepare for a tough political battle ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing that power is never handed over freely but must be won through hard work, sacrifice and determination.
Speaking at the party’s 109th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, Wike said opposition politics requires resilience and commitment, warning that the PDP cannot return to power through entitlement or wishful thinking.
Drawing from his political experience, the former Rivers State governor encouraged aspirants not to be discouraged by intimidation, arrests or court cases, noting that political success often comes from overcoming difficult challenges.
Wike said the PDP remains focused on its electoral preparations despite ongoing legal disputes and expressed confidence that court cases would not derail the party’s plans ahead of the elections.
He also criticised members who had become accustomed to the benefits of being in power, urging them to embrace the realities of opposition politics and contribute to rebuilding the party.
The minister challenged party leaders and aspirants to focus on winning elections, strengthening grassroots support and delivering results rather than making excuses.
He further urged members to remain steadfast under pressure, describing political struggle as a test of courage and endurance.
Earlier, PDP National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed called for unity among party members and praised party officials for conducting recent primaries successfully. He also commended Wike for his support and guidance.
Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, appealed for reconciliation within the party, urging members to move beyond primary election disputes and unite behind a common goal.
He said the PDP’s future success depends on stronger unity, supporter mobilisation and expanded grassroots engagement nationwide.
