71-Year-Old Cleric Found Dead In Ondo Hotel Hours Before Church Installation Ceremony.

A 71-year-old cleric, Omotayo Ezekiel Fajana, has been found dead in a hotel room in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, just hours before he was scheduled to be officially installed as the Head Prayer Warrior Father of a Cherubim and Seraphim Church.

Fajana had reportedly traveled to the town to attend a church programme at Ogo Orimolade C&S Church, Okerigbo, where the installation ceremony was expected to take place.

However, the event took a tragic turn when he was discovered lifeless in his hotel room before the ceremony could begin.

Questions raised over circumstances of death

The circumstances surrounding his death have triggered concern among family members and church associates, leading to the launch of a police investigation.

According to reports, controversy emerged after the cleric’s body was allegedly moved from the hotel to a mortuary in nearby Ikare-Akoko before formal medical certification of death was obtained. The development has raised questions about whether proper procedures were followed after he was found dead.

Family members, unsettled by the situation, have reportedly petitioned law enforcement authorities, prompting a full-scale inquiry into the incident.

Police launch investigation, detain suspects

Detectives are currently working to determine the exact cause of death and reconstruct the events leading up to the tragedy, including identifying individuals who were with the cleric prior to his discovery.

As part of the ongoing investigation, three persons have reportedly been taken into custody to assist with inquiries.

The spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, confirmed the incident and said the matter is under active investigation.

He stated that detectives are examining all aspects of the case to determine whether any foul play was involved, adding that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
