Abducted Retired General Dies In Captivity.

Retired Major General Abubakar Rabe, who was abducted alongside his wife in Katsina State two weeks ago, has died while being held by his captors.

The former military officer and his wife were kidnapped around the Matazu area of Katsina State while travelling to attend a wedding ceremony. Their abduction drew attention after a video surfaced online showing the couple in captivity.

In the video, the kidnappers demanded the release of three suspected bandits identified as Sani, Aminu and Nasiru.

The retired general’s wife relayed the demands, stating that two of the individuals were arrested in Jikamshi, while the third was arrested in Kano State. She also appealed to the Katsina State Government and leaders in five local government areas to help secure their freedom.

Rabe also appeared briefly in the footage, where he spoke about the need for peace and mentioned that the kidnappers were interested in dialogue.

Confirming his death on Saturday, the Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasiru Mu’azu, said the retired general died while still in captivity.

According to the commissioner, the state government received the news with sadness despite efforts by the government and security agencies to secure the retired officer’s release.

Mu’azu explained that Rabe died from health complications linked to diabetes and hypertension while being held by the kidnappers.

The commissioner described the incident as a painful loss not only to the deceased’s family and Katsina State but also to Nigeria, considering the late general’s service to the country.

He added that Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, extended condolences to the family of the late military officer and described the development as a difficult moment that further shows the need to tackle insecurity across affected communities.

The government also offered prayers for the deceased and support to his family as they mourn his passing.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official confirmation on the condition or whereabouts of Rabe’s wife, leaving uncertainty over whether she has regained her freedom or remains in captivity.
