ADC Picks Rotimi Amaechi As Vice Presidential Candidate For 2027 Election.

The national leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced the selection of former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, as the party’s vice presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

According to a statement released by the party, Amaechi’s nomination followed the successful conclusion of the ADC presidential primary, in which he emerged as the runner-up.

The party described the proposed Atiku Abubakar–Rotimi Amaechi ticket as more than a political alliance, saying it represents the coming together of two experienced statesmen with the capacity to address Nigeria’s pressing challenges and drive national development.

“The proposed partnership between Atiku and Amaechi represents more than a political alliance; it is the coming together of two tested statesmen with the experience, national reach, and leadership capacity required to rescue Nigeria from its current challenges and reposition the country for a new era of prosperity, security, and inclusive development,” the statement read.

Highlighting Amaechi’s public service record, the ADC noted that he has served in key positions across both the legislative and executive arms of government.

The party recalled that he was Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, making him one of the longest-serving legislative leaders in Nigeria’s Fourth Republic, before serving two terms as Governor of Rivers State.

It also pointed to his tenure as Minister of Transportation, during which he oversaw major transportation and railway modernization projects across the country.

According to the ADC, Amaechi’s extensive experience in governance, public administration, and political leadership makes him well-positioned to support the party’s presidential candidate and contribute meaningfully to a future administration.

The statement further argued that Amaechi’s political influence across the South-South region and wider Southern Nigeria, coupled with his reputation as a reform-minded administrator and coalition builder, would strengthen the party’s electoral prospects.

“Together, Atiku Abubakar and Rotimi Amaechi embody a truly national ticket—one that bridges regions, generations, and political traditions,” the party stated.

“Their combined experience in governance, economic management, public administration, party organization, and nation-building offers Nigerians a credible and compelling alternative capable of restoring confidence in government and accelerating national development.”

The ADC added that the proposed ticket reflects its commitment to tackling issues such as economic recovery, job creation, national unity, and security, while urging party members, coalition partners, civil society organisations, youth groups, women leaders, and Nigerians to support its vision for the country.

The party expressed confidence that the Atiku-Amaechi partnership would energize its coalition and provide what it described as the leadership needed to build a stronger, safer, and more prosperous Nigeria ahead of the 2027 elections.
