The Anambra State Government has sealed an illegal health facility in Ifitedunu, Dunukofia Local Government Area, as part of efforts to curb unlawful medical practices and improve healthcare standards across the state.
The affected facility, identified as Vick-Benedict’s Home, was shut down by officials of the State Ministry of Health during an enforcement operation carried out on Monday.
Authorities also closed several facilities run by unapproved Traditional Birth Attendants operating within the area.
The exercise was led by the Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, alongside the Director of Medical Services, Dr Ugochukwu Chukwulobelu.
According to the ministry, the affected facilities were operating without the necessary registration and approval required under the state's healthcare regulations.
The government said such practices pose risks to public health and violate established standards guiding medical services.
Following the inspection, operators of the sealed clinic were directed to appear before the Department of Medical Services at the state secretariat in Awka for further investigation and possible regulatory action.
Health officials said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts by the state government to eliminate illegal healthcare practices and ensure residents receive treatment from properly licensed and regulated providers.
The government also reiterated its determination to sanitise the health sector by ensuring that hospitals, maternity homes, rehabilitation centres and birth attendant facilities comply with legal requirements before offering services to the public.
Authorities warned owners of unregistered health facilities to regularise their operations or risk closure and prosecution.
Residents were equally advised to seek medical care only from accredited healthcare centres approved by the state government.
The Ministry of Health assured the public that monitoring and enforcement activities would continue across Anambra to ensure compliance with healthcare laws and protect the lives of residents.
