The Kebbi State Police Command has launched a manhunt for armed men who abducted the wife and son of a political party chairman in Yauri Local Government Area of the state.
Police
sources said the incident occurred at about 0400 hours on June 22 when unknown
gunmen, suspected to be kidnappers, stormed the residence of Alhaji Yusuf Sani
Alhassan, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yauri LGA.
The
attackers were said to have invaded the Low Cost Area residence of the party
chairman, where they abducted his wife, Nana Aisha Yusuf, 35, and his son,
Sanusi Yusuf, 25, both of the same household.
According
to sources, the assailants, who were reportedly armed with dangerous weapons,
whisked the victims away to an unknown destination.
Following
the report, the Divisional Police Officer mobilised a combined team of police
operatives and local vigilantes to the scene.
However,
the suspects had reportedly fled into a nearby bush with the victims before the
arrival of security personnel.
Police
authorities said efforts were ongoing to rescue the abducted victims unhurt and
track down the fleeing suspects.
The
command assured that further updates would be communicated as investigations
and rescue operations continue. (Zagazola, excluding headline).
