The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the newly established Southeast Development Commission, SEDC, Mark Okoye, has come under heavy scrutiny of the Senate over alleged misuse of funds in the commission's appropriated budget of N16.6 billion for the 2025 fiscal year.
The senate through its committee on Southeast
Development Commission chaired by Senator, Orji Uzor Kalu accused the Managing
Director of spending a whooping N153million to rent a one-room office apartment
in Abuja, with the commission's corporate headquarters in Enugu.
Responding to how much has been spent so far from the
total sum of N16.6 billion released to the commission last December, Okoye
explained that roughly N12 billion is left in the commission's account.
The Senate Committee was however not satisfied with
Okoye's explanation and subsequently asked him to go and put his documents in
order and return next week Tuesday for further scrutiny.
