The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has set Sunday, June 14, 2026, aside as a nationwide “Black Sunday” to honour victims of terrorism and other violent attacks across the country.
The group also announced a three-day prayer programme from June 12 to June 14 to seek divine intervention over Nigeria’s worsening security situation.
CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, speaking after the 2026 National Church Denominational Leadership Summit, said prayers alone cannot solve the crisis and called for urgent government action.
He urged the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency on insecurity, support the creation of state police, and decentralise the security system to improve response to threats.
Okoh also demanded the release of kidnapped victims and justice for those affected by ongoing violence.
