Court Adjourns El-Rufai Trial To June 24 Over Absence Of Co-Defendants.

The Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna has moved the trial of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, to June 24 after two of his co-defendants failed to appear in court.

The case, filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, involves allegations of abuse of office, financial misconduct and fraud linked to his eight years in office as governor of Kaduna State.

El-Rufai was present in court on Monday and arrived around 9:30 a.m. He was accompanied by officials of the ICPC, operatives of the Department of State Services, and officers of the Nigeria Police Force.

Court proceedings were delayed after it was confirmed that two other defendants in the matter were absent. Their absence made it impossible for the case to continue as planned.

The presiding judge said the matter would be stepped down to allow all parties to be properly represented in court before hearing can proceed.

The court then fixed June 24 for continuation of the trial.

El-Rufai has denied all the allegations against him, saying that every decision taken during his time in office followed due process and the law.

The ICPC, however, maintains that some public funds were released for projects that were either not carried out or were not properly executed during his administration.
