Coventry City have completed the permanent signing of Nigerian midfielder Frank Onyeka from Brentford for an undisclosed fee following his successful loan spell at the CBS Arena.
The 28-year-old initially joined the Sky Blues on loan in January and has now sealed a permanent move after the opening of the summer transfer window.
Onyeka played an important role in Frank Lampard's side as Coventry secured the Sky Bet Championship title and earned promotion to the Premier League. During his loan spell, he made 14 league appearances and scored a vital goal in the club's victory over Derby County in April.
The Super Eagles midfielder also arrives with a wealth of Premier League experience, having made 75 top-flight appearances during his time at Brentford.
Speaking after completing the move, Onyeka expressed his excitement about continuing his journey with Coventry City.
“I’m really excited for the new season with Coventry,” he told the club's media team.
“When I first joined last season, I came here with two goals, and that was to win the Championship and help Coventry get promoted to the Premier League.
“I’m really happy to now be a Coventry player back in the Premier League.
“I will give everything to the team, fight for every ball, fight for my teammates and bring my experience.
“My ambition now is to help the club stay in the Premier League and finish as high as we can.”
Onyeka's permanent arrival is expected to strengthen Coventry City's midfield as the newly promoted side prepares for life back in the Premier League, with the Nigerian international set to play a key role in the club's bid to secure top-flight survival.
