Nigerian music star Davido has responded after comments made by Arewa singer and political commentator Dauda Kahutu Rarara, who criticised his outfit during a performance connected to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and related global appearances.
Rarara had faulted Davido’s choice of wearing a jacket displaying the names of abducted children from Oyo State. He argued that the singer should not have taken the issue to an international stage, accusing him of using the moment for political messaging. He further claimed the gesture could be interpreted as an attempt to embarrass President Bola Tinubu and suggested that Davido should be investigated over what he described as a “stunt.”
In his remarks, Rarara said such actions were inappropriate and insisted that similar behaviour would not be tolerated in other countries, framing the outfit as a breach of expected conduct at global events.
Reacting to the criticism, Davido appeared to dismiss the comments, at one point mocking Rarara’s pronunciation of his name in a video response that has since circulated online. The exchange has sparked further debate on social media, with users divided over whether the singer’s outfit was a form of advocacy or an inappropriate political statement on an international stage.
