The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has claimed that the party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, once offered activist Aisha Yesufu a ticket to contest for the House of Representatives, but she declined.
Dickson made the disclosure during a stakeholders’ meeting of the party in Abuja, amid ongoing internal disputes over the conduct of its primary elections.
The party has recently been facing tensions following allegations of irregularities in its primaries, particularly concerning the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial ticket, which Yesufu had initially sought.
Yesufu had earlier accused Dickson of poor leadership and alleged manipulation within the party’s internal processes. In a post on her verified X account, she also suggested that Dickson appeared to be in competition with Peter Obi, describing his actions as “fighting a war no one is waging against him.”
Responding during the meeting, Dickson defended the party’s handling of its internal affairs and stated that efforts were made to accommodate Yesufu’s political aspirations.
“Now, talking about the FCT, do you know that Peter Obi and I offered Aisha Yesufu a House of Representatives ticket, but she turned it down? House of Representatives that people are fighting for, she said she’s too big for it,” he said.
