Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has strongly condemned the kidnapping incident that occurred at the Vegetable Market area along Airport Road in Benin City, describing the attack as unacceptable and a direct assault on innocent residents.
The governor’s reaction was contained in a statement issued on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Patrick Ebojele, following the incident, which reportedly took place on Sunday.
According to the statement, Governor Okpebholo has directed the Commissioner of Police in the state, Monday Agbonika, to immediately launch a swift and coordinated investigation aimed at rescuing the victims and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
The governor stressed that his administration would not tolerate any act capable of threatening public safety, undermining security, or disrupting the peace and stability of Edo State.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities or movements to the nearest police station, noting that timely intelligence from the public would greatly assist ongoing security operations.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, Okpebholo assured citizens that security agencies would continue to pursue those responsible for the attack until they are apprehended and made to face the full weight of the law.
