Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has advised members of the National Youth Service Corps posted to the state to stay away from individuals and groups that promote violence, division, and unrest.
The governor gave the advice during the swearing-in ceremony for the 2026 Batch B Stream I corps members in Akwa Ibom. A total of 1,471 corps members were deployed to the state for the service year.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Eno urged the corps members to associate with people who support peace, unity, and national development.
He described the young graduates as important contributors to Nigeria’s future and encouraged them to help strengthen relationships among different ethnic groups and communities.
He said the country expects young people to bring fresh ideas, innovation, patriotism, and energy that can help move the nation forward.
The governor also assured the corps members that his administration would continue to protect their lives and property throughout their stay in the state.
Eno reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to providing a safe and supportive environment where corps members can make meaningful contributions to the social and economic growth of Akwa Ibom.
He also encouraged them to make good use of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme of the NYSC.
According to him, the programme offers an opportunity for corps members to acquire practical skills that can help them become self-reliant.
The governor noted that with the growing shortage of formal employment opportunities, young graduates should focus on developing entrepreneurial abilities and creating jobs rather than waiting for employment.
Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Dr. Ekerete Ekanem, represented by the Director of Administration and Supply, Mr. Anthony Isonguyo, called on the corps members to actively participate in community development projects, especially in rural areas.
He said such efforts would leave lasting benefits for local communities.
The Akwa Ibom State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Akuagbaogu Rosemary, used the occasion to remind the governor about his promise to improve facilities at the orientation camp.
She explained that recent rainfall had further affected conditions at the camp and made upgrades more necessary.
The oath of allegiance was administered on the corps members by the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom State, Justice Ekaette Fabian Obot, who was represented by Justice Ekpo Ntekim.
