Enugu Restricts Movement In Six LGAs For Senatorial By-election.

The Enugu State Government has placed a movement restriction across six local government areas ahead of the Enugu North Senatorial District by-election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026.

The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, announced the measure through a public service notice released on Friday, explaining that the restriction is aimed at ensuring a peaceful and orderly voting process.

The restriction will affect all 102 electoral wards within the district and will run from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on election day.

Only officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, security operatives, accredited observers, journalists, and other persons assigned election duties will be allowed to move during the period.

Residents have been advised to comply with electoral rules and maintain peace before, during, and after the exercise.

The government also urged political parties, candidates, and their supporters to avoid actions that could disrupt the process.

Security agencies have been directed to enforce the movement restriction and ensure order across the affected areas.

The Enugu North Senatorial District covers Igbo-Etiti, Igbo Eze North, Igbo Eze South, Nsukka, Udenu and Uzo-Uwani local government areas.

The Independent National Electoral Commission is conducting the by-election to fill the vacant senatorial seat in the district.
