Joint operation led by FCT Commissioner targets Paze community kidnapping ring.
Five people who were kidnapped in Abuja’s Byazhin area are safe tonight after a joint police operation turned into a fierce gun battle with suspected bandits.
The FCT Police Command confirmed Tuesday that two suspected kidnappers were killed and two others arrested during an intensive rescue mission across Paze and Byazhin communities.
Acting on a string of recent kidnappings in Paze community, FCT Commissioner of Police Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi personally led the clearance operation. The team included operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the NPF Intelligence Response Team, Kubwa Area Command, plus local hunters and vigilante groups.
Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh said the joint security team launched a wide search and clearance sweep across both communities. During the operation, they ran into the suspected kidnappers and a gunfight broke out.
Two suspects were neutralized on the spot. Two others, identified as Icheh Mohammadu and Abubakar Usman, were arrested. The rest of the gang escaped into nearby hills with gunshot wounds.
All five kidnap victims were rescued unharmed during the raid. Officers also recovered two AK-47 rifles with magazines from the scene.
The Command is now asking hospitals, clinics, and the public to report anyone who shows up with gunshot injuries under suspicious circumstances. Fleeing gang members are believed to be wounded.
Search operations are still ongoing across Byazhin and neighboring communities as police work to arrest the remaining suspects and dismantle the criminal network.
CP Sanusi praised the bravery and professionalism of the operatives involved. He also urged residents to stay security conscious and report any suspicious movements to the nearest police station.
Paze and Byazhin have seen a spike in kidnapping reports in recent weeks. Tuesday’s operation marks one of the most direct interventions by the FCT Command, with the Commissioner himself on the ground.
