American boxing legend Floyd Mayweather is facing two felony charges in Las Vegas, Nevada, over allegations that he wrote a bad check to purchase a luxury watch from a high-end resale store.
According to court records in Clark County, Mayweather was charged in April with theft and with drawing and passing a check without sufficient funds, allegedly with intent to defraud. Prosecutors claim the incident occurred in December 2024, when he reportedly issued a $200,000 check through Wells Fargo Bank to Las Vegas luxury reseller Gold and Beyond despite insufficient funds in his account.
Mayweather was scheduled to make an initial court appearance on Monday in Las Vegas Justice Court but did not attend in person. His legal representation appeared on his behalf, according to the Clark County District Attorney’s Office. The case has now been set for a hearing in September.
The felony allegations add to a growing list of legal and financial disputes involving the former world champion. In recent months, he has been sued in New York over alleged unpaid rent for a Manhattan apartment and has been involved in multiple disputes with jewelers. He has also filed a separate lawsuit against his former business manager, accusing him of a long-running fraud scheme.
As of now, Mayweather has not publicly responded in detail to the latest criminal charges.
