A former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Koko/Besse Local Government Area of Kebbi State, Alhaji Muhammadu Mai Barga Besse, has reportedly died while in captivity after being abducted by armed bandits.
Besse was kidnapped alongside a cleric of the Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah wa Ikamatis-Sunnah (JIBWIS), Alhaji Muhammad Maibarga, according to earlier reports. Both men were later seen in a disturbing video circulating online, in which they were allegedly humiliated by their captors in the Birnin Gwari forest, a known hideout for armed groups operating across parts of northern Nigeria.
The Kebbi State Police Command had earlier confirmed the death of Alhaji Maibarga in captivity on June 10.
The latest development was confirmed on Tuesday, June 23, by security and conflict reporter Bakatsine via a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that Alhaji Muhammadu Mai Barga Besse had also died while in captivity.
In his post, he said both abducted men seen in the viral footage had now lost their lives without being reunited with their families.
He described the incident as a tragic reflection of the worsening security situation in the region, noting the deep impact on affected families and communities.
