Veteran Fuji musician, Alhaji Azeez Oladeji, popularly known as Love Azeez, has been laid to rest in Lagos following his death.
The respected artiste, who was regarded as one of the pioneers of Fuji music and among the oldest surviving figures in the genre, died earlier this week.
His death was announced on Thursday by the Fuji Musicians Association of Nigeria (FUMAN) through a statement issued by the association’s National Public Relations Officer, Ade Bola Muili, also known as King Kakaki Safarri.
According to the association, Love Azeez played a major role in the growth of Fuji music over several decades.
FUMAN described him as a highly respected figure whose dedication and long years of service helped shape the genre and preserve its rich heritage.
The association stated that the late musician earned admiration across the industry through his experience, commitment and contributions to Fuji music.
It added that his death marked the end of a remarkable chapter in the history of the genre and left a deep void within the Fuji music community.
Family members confirmed that the veteran singer was buried on Thursday at Ojodu-Berger in Lagos State.
The burial was conducted according to Islamic rites shortly after the Zuhr prayer.
The funeral attracted a large gathering of relatives, friends, fellow musicians, admirers and members of the Fuji music community who came to pay their final respects to the late entertainer.
Among those present at the burial ceremony was former Chairman of the Copyright Society of Nigeria, Tony Okoroji.
Also in attendance was popular Fuji musician and FUMAN Vice President, Alhaji Musibau Alani, widely known as Omo Kekere, who led members of the association’s leadership and other Fuji artistes to honour the deceased.
Before his passing, Love Azeez held important positions within Nigeria’s music industry.
He served as President of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria in 1989 and later became Chairman of the Copyright Society of Nigeria, where he contributed to efforts aimed at protecting the rights and interests of music creators.
FUMAN President, Alhaji Sikiru Agboola Ayinde, known as SK Sensation, and members of the association’s National Executive Council expressed sadness over the loss.
They described the late musician as one of the most respected figures in Fuji music and extended condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and supporters.
The association also offered prayers for the repose of his soul and comfort for those affected by his death.
Love Azeez leaves behind a legacy built on decades of dedication to Fuji music.
His contributions to the development of the genre and his service to Nigeria’s music industry remain part of the history that many musicians and fans will continue to remember.
