INEC Restores NDC Nomination Portal Access.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has restored access to the Nigeria Democratic Congress nomination portal, allowing the party to continue uploading its candidates, including former Bayelsa State governor Seriake Dickson and presidential candidate Peter Obi, despite an ongoing court dispute over the party’s legal status.

Dickson disclosed the development through a post on his X account on Tuesday, saying the party had already filed an appeal and an application seeking a stay of execution following a recent Federal High Court judgment in Lokoja. He also said the documents had been delivered to the electoral commission alongside a formal request for compliance with the law.

The former governor maintained that the party remains legally registered and had already conducted its primaries under INEC supervision, producing candidates for various elective positions. He added that the process of uploading names to the commission’s portal was ongoing, with some key entries already completed, while others were still being processed.

He also noted that the party still has time within INEC’s election timetable to submit all candidates, including those for the National Assembly, governorship, and state assembly races.

Dickson further said reconciliation efforts were underway within the party to bring together aspirants who were not successful in the primaries, assuring them of inclusion in campaign structures and party activities.

He expressed appreciation to the INEC leadership led by Joash Amupitan for what he described as professional handling of the process, while expressing confidence that the courts would resolve the appeal in line with the law.

The development follows renewed legal tension over the party’s status after the court ruling that raised questions about its registration, though the party insists it remains valid pending the outcome of its appeal.
