President Bola Tinubu has praised Nigeria’s security agencies following recent operations in Kogi and Katsina States that led to the killing of a notorious bandit leader, Ibrahim Bastuji, and the rescue of an abducted widow.
Bastuji and several members of his gang were reportedly neutralised in Kogi State while preparing to launch attacks on a school and residents of Iluke Bunu in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area.
The operation was carried out through coordinated efforts involving the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
In a statement issued through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President said the operation dealt a major setback to criminal groups operating in the region and showed the determination of security forces to protect communities across the country.
He assured that the government would not allow criminals to take control of any part of Nigeria, adding that those involved in violent attacks on innocent citizens would continue to face strong resistance from security forces.
In a separate operation in Katsina State, troops of the 17 Brigade rescued Hajiya Amina Rabe Abubakar, widow of the late former Chief of Defence Information, Major General Rabe Abubakar (retd), from kidnappers in Tunga Village.
During the rescue mission, soldiers engaged the abductors as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks in the area, leading to her safe return.
The President described the rescue as a relief to her family and the nation, while commending the bravery and professionalism of the security personnel involved in both operations.
