It Was Either Football Or Nothing Else - Ola Aina.

Ola Aina has opened up about his mindset during his rise to professional football, admitting that he never seriously considered an alternative career if the sport had not worked out.

In a candid conversation with fellow players, the Nigeria national football team defender revealed that academics were not his strongest area, and that he placed full focus on building a career in football from a young age.

“If I didn’t play football, I was finished,” Aina said, highlighting just how central the game was to his sense of direction growing up. He added that unlike some of his peers, who he joked could have pursued careers in fields such as medicine or mathematics, he did not feel he had strong academic alternatives.

Now a key player for Nottingham Forest F.C., Aina reflected on the uncertainty that comes with pursuing professional football. Despite progressing through youth systems and representing England national football team at youth level before switching allegiance, he emphasized that no young player ever truly feels guaranteed success.

He noted that even talented academy players are constantly aware that setbacks, injuries, or missed opportunities can change their career trajectory at any moment before they secure a professional breakthrough.
