Apostle Johnson Suleman has described Nigeria’s military, police, and Department of State Services (DSS) as some of the best security institutions in the world, despite the country's ongoing security challenges.
The founder of Omega Fire Ministries made the remarks while speaking on the fight against terrorism and insurgency in Nigeria.
He commended security personnel for their efforts and sacrifices in protecting the country, noting that many officers continue to work under difficult conditions.
According to Suleman, his travels across different countries have given him the opportunity to observe security systems around the world, and he believes Nigeria’s armed forces and intelligence agencies compare favourably with many of their counterparts abroad.
The cleric said security operatives are sometimes discouraged when suspected terrorists arrested during operations are later released due to the influence of powerful individuals. He maintained that such situations can affect the morale of officers who risk their lives in the line of duty.
Suleman also defended the activities of the DSS, stating that the agency carries out intelligence gathering and security operations regularly, even though many of its successes are not made public.
He argued that Nigerians should support security institutions instead of constantly criticising them.
Speaking on possible solutions to the country's security problems, the preacher called for an end to open grazing and advised herders to adopt ranching. He also urged authorities to identify and prosecute individuals who sponsor and finance terrorist activities across the country.
The cleric claimed that many insurgents currently being confronted by security forces are descendants of people who entered the country years ago.
He stated that although security agencies had eliminated many fighters in the past, a new generation had emerged and continued the activities.
Suleman insisted that greater attention should be directed toward those providing funding and support to terrorist groups, arguing that tackling sponsors would weaken the operations of criminal networks.
He further urged political leaders to place national security above political interests, saying the fight against insecurity should receive full attention from those in authority.
The preacher added that any leader who believes the security situation is beyond their ability to handle should step aside and allow others to take responsibility, stressing that citizens expect those in government to find lasting solutions to the country's security challenges.
