Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda has expanded the state's automatic employment policy to include all indigenes who graduate with first-class degrees from higher institutions across Nigeria.
Radda announced the decision on Sunday during the grand finale and award presentation of the first Katsina State Students’ Week held at Bayero University, Kano.
The governor said the move is aimed at bringing highly talented graduates into the state civil service and improving the quality of public service delivery.
He explained that the policy was previously limited to graduates of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University and other institutions located within Katsina State but will now cover first-class graduates from any higher institution in the country.
According to him, recruiting outstanding graduates into the civil service will help build a more efficient workforce capable of competing with other states and federal institutions in the coming years.
Radda also said his administration has focused on supporting education through the payment of outstanding scholarship obligations and increased bursary allowances.
He noted that the efforts were intended to encourage students to remain in school and pursue their academic goals.
The governor stated that the government's investments in education had helped reduce the number of out-of-school children and prevented many young people from engaging in social vices.
He added that education remains one of the top priorities of his administration, with a large portion of the state budget consistently directed toward the sector.
Radda said the government has recruited more than 10,000 teachers, built new schools and renovated educational facilities across the state.
He urged students to continue working hard academically and contribute to the development of Katsina State.
The governor also expressed satisfaction with the achievements of Katsina students, saying their performance continues to make the state proud.
Speaking at the event, Bayero University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Haruna Musa-Muhammad, praised the governor for his support for students and welcomed the review of the state's scholarship programme.
He also expressed the university's readiness to collaborate with the Katsina State Government on educational development initiatives.
Earlier, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Matters and convener of the event, Muhammad Nagaske, said the Students’ Week was organised to promote academic excellence, encourage collaboration among students, support cultural exchange and discover talents.
The week-long programme attracted students from Katsina studying in institutions across Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi, Borno and other states. Participants who excelled in sports, academic contests and cultural activities were rewarded with various prizes.
