Kwankwaso Wants To Rule Kano By Proxy Through Son - APC.

The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has accused former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of trying to maintain control of Kano politics through his family.

The allegation followed the choice of Mustapha Kwankwaso as deputy governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress for the 2027 election.

Mustapha was picked to run alongside Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo as the party prepares for the coming election cycle in Kano State.

Mustapha had earlier served as Commissioner for Youth and Sports under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf before stepping down with other commissioners after Yusuf moved to the APC.

The Kano APC leadership said the nomination did not come as a surprise, insisting it fits into what it described as Kwankwaso’s long-term political plans in the state.

The party chairman, Umar Haruna Doguwa, claimed that the former governor had made past efforts to extend his hold on power beyond normal limits and that placing his son in a key electoral position was another move in that direction.

He also stated that those close to Kwankwaso were aware of his political ambitions and that recent developments were in line with his past actions in Kano politics.

The APC further insisted that it was not disturbed by the development and said it remained confident ahead of the 2027 governorship contest.

Supporters of Kwankwaso have continued to push for a return to influence in Kano politics after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s defection to the APC, a move they have criticised as a betrayal of earlier political alignment.
