A student of Lagos State University (LASU), Otabor Boluwatife Joseph, has died after suffering injuries during an armed robbery attack in the Iba area of Lagos State.
Joseph, a student of the Department of History and International Studies in the Faculty of Arts, was attacked alongside some of his friends off campus on May 29, 2026.
The university disclosed that the student sustained injuries during the incident and was taken for medical treatment. However, he later died on June 2, 2026.
In a statement issued on June 4 by the Acting Coordinator of the Centre for Information and Public Relations, Olaniyi Jeariogbe, the university announced the student's death and expressed sadness over the development.
The management of LASU said Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello extended condolences to the deceased student's family, friends, colleagues, and the entire university community.
The institution described the incident as painful and prayed for strength and comfort for those affected by the loss.
Joseph was a student in the Department of History and International Studies and had the matriculation number 240341269.
