Liverpool and Belgian striker Divock Origi has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 31, bringing an end to a remarkable career filled with unforgettable moments.
In a heartfelt statement, Origi said: "My purpose in the game is fulfilled. I lived out my childhood dreams, played on the biggest stages, won the biggest trophies. Grateful to God for all of it. To all my fans, the clubs, my teammates and my family: this will forever be ours. Thank you. The mission is complete. Now I step into my next calling. More of the journey to come. Love, Divock Origi."
Origi’s career spanned multiple countries and clubs. He joined Liverpool from Lille in 2014, spending eight years at Anfield, with loan spells back at Lille and at Wolfsburg in Germany. He made 175 appearances for the Reds, scoring 41 goals, many of which were decisive in Jurgen Klopp’s trophy-laden era, including the Premier League and Champions League.
After leaving Liverpool, Origi moved to AC Milan on a free transfer and later returned to England for a season-long loan with Nottingham Forest in 2024. On the international stage, he earned 32 caps for Belgium, scoring three goals.
Jurgen Klopp paid tribute to the striker, calling him a “Liverpool legend”: "We can only do that with the few we know it definitely. I think that is only Div. So, yes, I expect Div to get a special reception, or farewell, or whatever. He is, and will be for me, forever a Liverpool legend and one of the most important players I ever had."
Origi will be remembered not just for his goals, but for his knack for producing iconic moments under pressure, cementing his place in Liverpool’s history and the hearts of fans worldwide.
