Makinde Says He Is Ready To Die For Oyo Abducted Pupils’ Release.

Governor Seyi Makinde has said he is prepared to give up his life if that is what it takes to secure the release of 46 pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on May 15.

The governor spoke on Tuesday when he received protesters led by social media activist Martins Vincent Otse (VeryDarkMan) at his private residence in Ikolaba, Ibadan.

The group had gathered to demand urgent action over rising insecurity and the continued captivity of the schoolchildren and their teachers.

Makinde assured residents that the state would not suffer a repeat of past mass school abductions in the country. He said efforts were ongoing to rescue the victims and that security agencies were working under difficult conditions to secure their safe return.

He also revealed that security operations linked to the rescue mission had already led to losses, including the death of a Nigerian Army officer. According to him, a teacher had also died during the period of captivity, which made the situation more painful for the state.

The governor explained that he understood the concerns of the protesters and agreed that citizens have the right to demand action from leaders. He, however, noted that state authorities do not control federal security agencies directly, even though they continue to work closely with them on the rescue efforts.

Makinde restated his commitment to ensuring the safe return of the abducted pupils and teachers, adding that every possible step is being taken while trying to avoid further loss of life.
