The Deputy Governor of Benue State, Barrister Sam Ode, has spoken out to clear confusion over the role of the First Lady in the state.
He stated that his wife, Mrs. Christie Ada Sam-Ode, is not the First Lady of Benue State.
This clarification was made through a statement released by the Deputy Chief Press Secretary in the Office of the Deputy Governor, Mr. Ior Ikyereve.
The statement explained that Mrs. Sam-Ode’s position remains that of the Deputy Governor’s wife, based on her husband’s constitutional role in government.
It also reacted to reports spreading on social media that suggested she was laying claim to the First Lady position. The office described such reports as false and misleading.
According to the statement, the First Lady role is traditionally held by the governor’s wife, and there has been no attempt by Mrs. Sam-Ode to take on that title or act in that capacity.
The Deputy Governor’s Office added that Mrs. Sam-Ode continues to support her husband in his duties while also taking part in activities that align with the goals of the current administration.
It further dismissed talk of any disagreement within the state government, saying the Deputy Governor, his family, and Governor Hyacinth Alia maintain a good working relationship with other officials.
The office urged the public to ignore false stories circulating online and to avoid information that could create confusion about the state government.
