Niger Police Rescue Four Children In Alleged Trafficking & Ritual Case.

The Niger State Police Command has rescued four children from suspected traffickers operating under the guise of adoption services and an orphanage in Niger State.

Police also arrested two suspects, identified as 68-year-old Promise Chukwudi and 62-year-old Suzanna Onojekwo, in connection with alleged child trafficking and ritual-related activities.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the operation was carried out on June 3, 2026, in a residence behind the old NEPA area in Suleja, following intelligence-led surveillance by operatives of the State Intelligence Department.

During the raid, three children were rescued at the first location, while another child was later recovered from Onojekwo’s residence on Church Road within the same area.

The children, aged between four and seven, were reportedly taken into protective custody after the operation.

The suspects alleged that the children were lawfully handed over to them by their parents between November 2025 and February 2026 for adoption purposes. They also claimed involvement in orphanage operations and traditional herbal medical practice.

However, police said several parents from Abuja, Nasarawa State, and Benue State later came forward to identify and reclaim the children, contradicting the suspects’ version of events.

During a search of one of the suspects’ homes, officers reportedly found a shrine along with animal skulls, feathers, and pieces of multi-coloured cloth, which authorities described as fetish materials.

Police say the evidence is part of an ongoing investigation into possible ritual-related activities linked to the case.

The suspects were transferred to the police headquarters in Minna for further investigation. The rescued children have since been handed over to a child welfare agency for care while efforts continue to trace their rightful guardians.

The police confirmed that the suspects have been charged to court as investigations proceed into the broader trafficking network.
