Nigerian Clerics Benefitting From Hardship, Insecurity – Spyro.

Afrobeats singer Spyro has alleged that many religious leaders in Nigeria are gaining from the country’s security and economic problems, which is why they are not doing enough to address the situation.

The singer made the remarks during an interview on Wazobia FM Lagos, where he spoke about the role of religious leaders in national issues.

According to him, clerics have a responsibility to guide and protect the people who attend their churches and should not remain silent while citizens face hardship and insecurity.

Spyro argued that religious leaders should regularly discuss security concerns with their congregations and educate them on ways to stay safe.

He also said churches should provide better guidance on civic responsibilities, including voter education, so that members can make informed decisions during elections.

The singer maintained that many clerics have failed to take such steps because they profit from the difficult conditions facing the country.

He claimed that when a nation experiences crisis, religious leaders are often among those who gain the most from the situation.

He further stated that Nigerians should demand accountability from all those in leadership positions, including religious figures, rather than focusing only on political office holders.

“Nigerian religious leaders should speak up against insecurity. They should tell the people on how to secure themselves and include the issue of insecurity in their sermons. They should also give their congregants proper electoral orientations.

“Unfortunately, they are not doing that because the more the country is spoiling, the more money they make.

“Anywhere there is a crisis in a country, the people who benefit the most are religious leaders.

“We should make sure we hold all our leaders, including clerics, accountable,” he stated.
