NSCDC Arrests Man In Kwara For Alleged PoS Fraud & Army Impersonation.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kwara State has arrested a 34-year-old man, Akinola Tosin, for allegedly defrauding a Point-of-Sale (PoS) operator using a fake bank transfer alert while also impersonating a member of the Nigerian Army.

According to a statement issued on Monday, June 8, 2026, by the command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC 1 Ayoola Michael, the suspect was apprehended following a complaint lodged by a PoS operator in the state.

The NSCDC alleged that Tosin obtained ₦40,600 from the operator after presenting a counterfeit debit alert as proof of payment.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect collected the sum of Forty Thousand Six Hundred Naira (#40,600) after presenting a fake debit alert to the POS operator, deceiving the victim into believing a successful transfer had been made,” the statement said.

Further investigations reportedly revealed that the suspect had been impersonating a soldier using a fake Nigerian Army identity card bearing his name, along with military paraphernalia, which he allegedly used to gain public trust and facilitate fraudulent activities.

The command also stated that the suspect confessed to previous scams involving multiple victims. Investigators further identified a suspected accomplice, named as Feranmi Idoko Godwin, who is currently at large.

Items recovered from the suspect include multiple ATM cards from different banks as well as a National Identity Card. Authorities say efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and conclude investigations.

The NSCDC Commandant in Kwara State, Commandant Abbas Ndah Mohammed, reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to tackling crime and urged the public to verify electronic payments before releasing cash, goods, or services.
