A 23-year-old student of the College of Nursing Sciences, Alor, in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, has been found dead in her apartment at Uruezeani, Alor.
The student, Chiamaka Chilaka, an ND II learner and native of Isingu in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State, was discovered lifeless on Sunday after she attended church service.
Reports from the area said a church minister broke down in tears at the scene, expressing deep sorrow over her death and calling her his daughter in distress.
There were also claims circulating on social media that the young woman had been experiencing unwanted advances from her landlord, which she rejected, and that she was last seen in an argument with him.
The situation led to growing concern in the community after her body was found inside her room under unclear circumstances.
The spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that the landlord has been taken into custody as police begin full investigation into the case.
According to him, the case was moved from the Nnobi Divisional Police Headquarters to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for further handling. He said the Commissioner of Police ordered a detailed investigation after receiving the report.
Police officers who visited the apartment observed injuries on the body, including a deep cut on her thigh, other marks on her body and blood stains, which raised suspicion of possible violence.
The police also said the body has been taken to a mortuary for preservation and autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Authorities added that the landlord is currently being questioned while investigation continues, and assured that anyone found responsible will face the law.
